The Colorado Supreme Court has approved a new paraprofessional program that will allow some non-attorneys to practice limited family law, the state Judicial Department announced Monday. The justices agreed to create a licensed legal paraprofessional program that will allow licensed non-attorneys to represent clients in some divorce and child custody cases. The move makes Colorado one of just a handful states with such programs.Proponents say the paraprofessional program will offer litigants a more affordable option than traditional representation by an attorney and will decrease the number of people in the family law court system who appear without any representation. Opponents worry the paraprofessionals will be ill-equipped to handle legal matters.Under the newly-approved plan, candidates will be required to pass a written exam and meet certain educational requirements in order to become licensed legal paraprofessionals. Candidates must have completed at least 1,500 hours of “...Colorado Springs police searching for 11-year-old boy who went missing last week

State Farm, California's largest vehicle insurer, is raising rates for its 3.7 million policyholders now that many if not most of them are on the road again.Vehicle insurance premiums declined during the pandemic after I and others pointed out to the state Department of Insurance that rates no longer reflected the reality of cars sitting in driveways. Now Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara is approving rate increases in light of the pandemic easing and people returning to offices. Most recently he's given the green light for State Farm to raise premiums by a total $264 million, which translates to about $70 per policyholder.Insurers say the higher rates reflect the greater risk of most people being back on streets and freeways. But consumer advocates say this is price gouging, and that in many cases, higher premiums are unwarranted."These massive premiums increases have been approved even though most auto insurance companies have failed to fully repay their customers for windfall over...Video shows car launched into the air by runaway tire in Los Angeles

Dramatic dash camera footage from a Tesla captured the moment a vehicle on a Southern California freeway ran over a tire that had just come off a nearby pickup truck, launching the car into a midair spin. The incident occurred on Mar. 23 on the 118 Freeway in Chatsworth and was caught on Anoop Khatra’s dashboard camera. Video shows traffic moving along the roadway when a dark-colored vehicle approaches a pickup truck that had just transitioned into the middle lane. Moments later, the truck’s front driver’s side tire pops off right in front of the dark-colored car. The driver of the dark-colored vehicle runs over the tire and shoots into a midair spin before crashing back onto the freeway hood first and rolling back right side up. As if that weren't scary enough, the video also shows the tire coming back into the frame and slamming into the wreckage of the vehicle as it skids to a stop.
