Australia decides against canceling Chinese company’s lease of strategically important port CANBERRA, Australia (AP) — The Australian government announced Friday it has decided not to cancel a Chinese company’s 99-year lease on strategically important Darwin Port despite U.S. concerns that the foreign control could be used to spy on its military forces. The Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet said it decided after an investigation of the eight-year-old lease that current monitoring and regulation measures are sufficient to manage security risks for critical infrastructure such as the port in the northern garrison city of Darwin.“Australians can have confidence that their safety will not be compromised while ensuring that Australia remains a competitive destination for foreign investment,” it said in a statement.Landbridge Industry Australia, a subsidiary of Rizhao-based Shandong Landbridge Group, signed the lease with the debt-laden Northern Territory government in 2015. Five takeaways from Biden’s Oval Office address

Five takeaways from Biden’s Oval Office address  (The Hill) - President Biden addressed the nation from the Oval Office Thursday evening. The main topics of the 15-minute speech were the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians, and the war in Ukraine. The Middle East has entered a horrific new phase since Hamas killed about 1,400 Israelis in a surprise attack on Oct. 7. Israeli reprisals have killed around 3,800 Palestinians. A ground invasion of Gaza by Israel could come at any moment. On Ukraine, polls show American public commitment to the war wavering as the price tag for aid keeps rising. Biden’s speech was also delivered against a backdrop of dysfunction on Capitol Hill, where the House has been without a Speaker since Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) was ousted on Oct. 3. Here are the main takeaways from Biden’s speech. An attempt to weave together Ukraine, Israel and Gaza The central point of the speech was to make the case for new tranches of aid to Ukraine and to Israel.  B...

Here's her email: Get the latest news, weather, sports and entertainment delivered right to your inbox! Hi Jaime. I was at a restaurant with my husband and a few friends over the weekend. We brought my 1 year old, who sat at the table with us. He of course dropped some food and other things on the ground over the course of our meal. We ate our food, paid our bill, and got ready to leave. As we were walking away, one of my friends stopped us and says "aren't you going to pick up after your child?" I couldn't believe she said that. I get we're at a restaurant, but he's a child. He didn't mean to leave scraps on the ground. She said I should've taken the time to pick up what was dropped so the waitress doesn't have to. I think it's the waitress's job to clean up. Was I out of line or was my friend wrong to say anything? Thanks so much.PattyI don't know if Patty's friend should have sai...
