SAN JOSE, Calif. (KRON) -- The Powerball Jackpot for Wednesday night's drawing was set at $850 million, and while nobody in California matched the five winning numbers with the Powerball number, a player in San Jose still won big money. At a Quick Stop located at 5 Stewart Ave, one player drew the five winning numbers, but not the Powerball number. That ticket is worth $796,425, according to the California Lottery website. ‘No turn on red’ signs could be going up all over San Francisco No other lottery players in California drew all five numbers. Five people matched four winning numbers with the Powerball numbers. Those tickets are worth $23,318.The winning numbers are 47, 63, 1, 46, and 7, with a Powerball number of 7. The $850 million jackpot is the second-largest jackpot of the year. In July, a California lottery player hit a $1.08 billion jackpot.

OAKLAND, Calif. (KRON) – The search continues for a new police chief in Oakland. On Thursday, the community will get their chance to weigh in, as many people are calling for former police chief LeRonne Armstrong to be reinstated.The police commission is holding a town hall, and the commission chair says that the meeting will happen even if the full commission does not show up.Shortly after taking office earlier this year, Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao fired Armstrong following an investigation by a law firm hired by a federal monitor overseeing the Oakland Police Department, which found that Armstrong failed to discipline an officer for misconduct. 2 killed, 3 hospitalized after shooting in Northeast DC

Five people were shot at 14th Street and Saratoga Avenue in Northeast D.C. on Wednesday night, the District’s Acting Police Chief Pamela Smith confirmed at a news conference.Around 9:50 p.m., DC Police arrived on the scene where it was determined two victims were pronounced dead. Another was taken to an area hospital by D.C. Fire and EMS, while two others transported themselves to local hospitals for treatment.One of the three surviving victims is in critical condition, while another has non-life-threatening injuries.No arrests have been made at this point. Alexandria planning to expand license plate reader program aimed at identifying stolen cars

City leaders in Alexandria, Virginia, are planning to expand a program that uses license plate readers to detect stolen cars, among other things.At an Alexandria City Council meeting this week, Police Chief Don Hayes said the pilot program has been so successful in six months that the city is going to increase the number of plate readers on local roads.The six devices in place as part of the pilot program, Hayes said, averaged 220 plate hits per month, and helped police close 14 cases, make 33 arrests/warrants and recover over $240,000 in property.Now, the city is planning to deploy 12 more readers, particularly on corridors used to enter Alexandria, Hayes said.
