Local law enforcement officers in the town of Ganges in southern France confiscated saucepans used by protesters to make noise in demonstrations against Emmanuel Macron, during a visit from the French president on Thursday. In a video posted on Twitter, a local policeman can be seen seizing a small, round, steel saucepan from a protester. To justify the pan bust, the officer refers to a ban on “portable sound devices” and “entertainment devices” issued by local authorities ahead of Macron’s visit to a high school in Ganges, in the southern Hérault department.Asked by Sébastien Rome, a local MP from the leftist party France Unbowed, if he was willing to face the demonstrators during his visit, Macron said he would go “if people are ready to talk.“If it’s just for the eggs and the pans — at my place, these are used to cook,” he said.Pans and trowels were also used by crowds of demonstrators to disrupt Macron’s visit to the town...Spain’s water war gets political

MURCIA, Spain — Water, or the lack of it, is Spain’s new battlefield.Nowhere is this more apparent than in a dispute over a 200-mile waterway. For four decades, water has been diverted from Spain’s longest river, the Tagus, via a series of aqueducts and tunnels, to the Segura River in the southeast, allowing for the extensive cultivation of fruit and vegetables. But a plan by the Spanish government to increase the flow in the Tagus, which provides water for towns and cities across western Spain and parts of Portugal, including Madrid and Lisbon, will severely restrict the amount flowing into the Segura.A backlash from farmers and politicians in the affected areas has made it a hot-button political issue ahead of local elections slated for May, and highlights the competing pressures on Spain’s water resources as climate change starts to bite. The decision by the leftist coalition government of Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez to reduce the flow along the artificial channel to the Segura co...Police: Serious crash causing delays on Mass Pike eastbound in West Stockbridge

CNN) — A parking garage that collapsed Tuesday in lower Manhattan, killing one person and injuring five others, had six open building violations, three of which were classified as “hazardous,” New York City Department of Buildings records show. The garage, on Ann Street in the Financial District, was a four-story building that “pancaked … all the way to the cellar floor,” Department of Buildings acting Commissioner Kazimir Vilenchik said. The cause is under investigation, but officials have said they believe it was a “structural collapse.”The Manhattan district attorney’s office is investigating the collapse, it said Wednesday. The office said in a statement it “cannot confirm details of an ongoing investigation.”The fire department used a robotic dog and drones to search the building for people because it was “completely unstable,” New York Mayor Eric Adams said at a news conference. The opportunity was there to offer a tried-and-true trope. But the Miami Heat also knew better after trailing by as many as 36 points Wednesday night.Yes, they went into Milwaukee and stole away into one of the two nights with a road victory to claim homecourt advantage in this best-of-seven opening-round Eastern Conference playoff series against the Bucks. To his credit, Heat coach Erik Spoelstra attempted as much.“All things said, this feels horrible, having a game like this,” he said. “But we got one and we’re going to figure out how to get another one.”His players, stung by the thoroughness of the trashing, first needed time to digest what transpired in Wednesday night’s 138-122 loss at Fiserv Forum.“I mean,” guard Duncan Robinson said, “we’ve got to lick our wounds on this one first, for sure. Obviously getting one here is good, but just the sense of urgency [Wednesday] definitely wasn’t where we wanted it to be.&...Dunkin' is pouring free brews on National Cold Brew Day
